What is the cause of dyslexia and reading difficulties?
Dyslexia is one of the most common learning disabilities. One of the key symptoms is reading difficulties in children or even in adults. The word has Greek origins and roughly translates to “poor reading” or “disturbed reading ability”. When someone is dyslexic, they can be slow in reading, comprehensing written and spoken stories. Sometimes speech comprehension in class is also very difficult.
Dyslexia is an umbrella term for learning disabilities regarding reading. A problem with numbers and mathematics is called dyscalculia and a problem with letters and writing is called dysgraphia.
Many areas of the brain take part in the process of reading. Deficit or damage of mental skills can cause the deficit or damage of the ability to read. The root causes can be:
- deficit of the visual or auditive systems
- poor attention and focus
- slow processing speed
- damage or malfunctioning of the cerebellum
- deficit of working memory.

The Gibson test is a cognitive profile test which measures all key cognitive skills. Actually, it may function as a dyslexia test, dysgraphia test and dyscalculia test since it reveals the underlying causes of these learning disabilities. Based on our assessment, effective dyslexia therapy is possible. The Gibson test can find the root causes of all learning disabilities! In addition to showing the total IQ score of the client, the test measures all the key cognitive skills necessary for any form of learning! After the Gibson test a careful selection of mentally challenging tasks takes place at our Learning Center. After having seen the results, we develop an individually tailored program to our clients.
